Any proceeds raised from Western Port Craft Expo go towards the restoration and continued maintenance of the historic small brick chapel in the Hastings Uniting Church grounds.
This former Wesleyan chapel dates from 1923 and was built on the site of a smaller wooden chapel. It was desperately in needed some tender loving care in order to be used again as a place of worship by Uniting Church members.
In the years since the Craft Expo began, funds raised have paid for drainage, replacement and painting of damaged windows, recreation of the original fretwork at the front, replacement of rotten bargeboards at gable ends and the removal of a painted concrete ‘skirt’. All this work is being done in accordance with the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Heritage Architect’s directions.
